Creating Websites and Videos Like a Pro (Or At Least Pretending To)

Alright lads, let’s dive into Nights 7 and 8 of this course, where we talk about building websites and creating videos two things that sound easy until you actually try them. But don't worry, I’ve got you covered with a little guidance.

Night 7: The Joy (and Pain) of Making a Website

So, you’ve decided to make a website. Good for you. But before you start slapping stock images and Comic Sans all over the place, let’s talk about the pros and cons.

The Pros:

  • Your Website Works 24/7: Unlike you, your website doesn’t need coffee breaks or sleep. It’s there for your audience, day or night, ready to sell your stuff or show off your portfolio while you binge-watch Netflix.
  • First Impressions Matter: It’s like dating. People judge you in seconds. Make it clean, professional, and not something that looks like it’s stuck in loading on internet explorer.

The Cons:

  • Maintenance: Yeah, websites don’t just run themselves. You’ll be tweaking, updating, and swearing at broken links. But hey, that’s the price of looking professional, right?
  • Tech Issues: Remember the time you tried to download an app and accidentally turned your phone into a brick? Imagine that, but with a website. Fun times.

Building a Clean, Professional Website (That Doesn’t Suck)

Step one: keep it simple. Don’t go overboard with neon colors and flashy pop-ups that scream, “I don’t know what I’m doing!” People like clean and easy-to-navigate sites, not scavenger hunts.

  • Focus on your message: Make sure your visitors know exactly what you do within the first 5 seconds. If it takes them longer to figure it out, they’re already gone.
  • User-friendly layout: No one wants to play Sherlock Holmes to find your contact info. Put your most important stuff where it’s easy to find. Simple, right?

Now, sit back and watch your shiny new website do all the heavy lifting while you sleep. Or, you know, stress over analytics.

Night 8: Let’s Talk About Making a Video (Because Everyone’s a Filmmaker Now)

You think making a video is just pointing a camera and pressing record? Wrong. Buckle up, because there’s a whole process involved. We’ve got 7 steps to go from “I have an idea” to “Wow, that’s actually a decent video!”

Step 1: Set the Project Goal

Before you start filming, ask yourself: what’s the point? Are you trying to sell something? Share a message? Or just make your friends laugh at your terrible acting skills?

Step 2: Brainstorm Ideas (or Brainstop?)

This is where you throw all your wild ideas on the table. No idea is too ridiculous… well, except maybe that one where you thought filming yourself in a superhero costume would be a great idea. Oh wait, that’s my job.

Step 3: Consider the Timeline (Aim for 1 Minute)

We live in the age of goldfish-level attention spans. Keep your video short and sweet 1 minute long is ideal. If it’s any longer, your viewers might zone out faster than a student in a 9 AM lecture.

Step 4: Define Key Scenes

You’ve got a timeline, now think about the most important moments. What’s your opener? What’s the punchline? And how do you wrap it all up in a way that doesn’t make people wonder, “What did I just watch?”

Step 5: Level of Detail (aka “How Fancy Do You Want to Get?”)

Do you want your video to look like it was shot on a potato, or are we talking some high-level production with special effects and background music? Figure out how much effort you're willing to put into this thing.

Step 6: Storyboarding (Yes, You Have to Sketch)

No, you don’t have to be Picasso, but sketching out the scenes helps you visualize the flow. It’s like drawing stick figures to remind yourself, “Oh yeah, this is the part where I fall down the stairs for comedic effect.”

Step 7: Double Check Everything (Because Something Will Go Wrong)

You’re ready to shoot, but wait check your gear, your lighting, your audio. Trust me, the moment you think everything’s perfect, that’s when your mic will die, your camera will overheat, or your neighbor’s lawnmower will make a surprise guest appearance.

Pexels: The Land of Free B-Roll Footage

Want some snazzy b-roll without spending a dime? Head over to Pexels. You’ll find a treasure chest of free footage that will make your video look like it was shot by a professional filmmaker. Just don’t go too crazy no one needs to see 10 minutes of clouds rolling by in slow motion.

YouTube Ads: The Cheapest (and Probably the Most Effective)

Here’s the good news: YouTube is dirt cheap when it comes to running ads. Seriously, it’s like buying ad space for the price of a cup of coffee. And with billions of users, you’ve got a better chance of reaching your audience here than anywhere else.

Social Media Blacklisting: How to Avoid Getting Banned from the Internet

Ah, social media. One minute they love you, the next minute your posts are buried so deep even your mom can’t find them. Avoid getting blacklisted by staying on the right side of the algorithm gods. And here’s a trick: aim your content at 15 people so well that they’ll tell their 15 people. It's like starting a chain reaction of free promo without the headache of getting shadow banned.

There you have it websites and video creation in all their glory, sprinkled with just enough humor to keep you awake. Now go and build something amazing, or at least fake it until it looks good enough!

Stay tuned for more updates and don’t forget.
